Description XT-1 (CAS: 398143-78-7) is a 27-residue cationic antimicrobial peptide isolated from the skin secretion of the tropical clawed frog Xenopus tropicalis, sequence GFLGPLLKLAAKGVAKVIPHLIPSRQQ. Molecular formula C134H227N37O31, MW 2852.47 Da. XT-1 shows MICs of 5, 6, and 50 uM against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Candida albicans, respectively, demonstrating broad-spectrum antibacterial and antifungal activity. XT-1 belongs to the X. tropicalis XT peptide family together with XT-2 and XT-3, representing the skin host defense peptide repertoire of X. tropicalis that evolved in parallel with the magainin, xenopsin, and PGQ peptides of X. laevis. XT-1 adopts an amphipathic conformation and acts by membrane disruption. XT-1 is a tool for studying tropical clawed frog innate immunity and species diversification of Xenopus AMPs.
Structure type Linear 27-mer (X. tropicalis skin XT family amphipathic cationic peptide)
Solubility Readily soluble in water, dilute acetic acid
Storage Powder -20C, dry, protected from light

PEP-XT01 Scorpion venom peptide XT-1 with antibacterial and antiparasitic activity XT-1 is a homologous cationic active peptide from Mesobuthus martensii venom, highly homologous to XT-2 in sequence. It exerts potent inhibitory activity against Gram-positive pathogens, while inhibiting parasite growth and killing tumor cells. The mechanism is dominated by membrane disruption combined with intracellular targeting, serving as a model for studying structure-activity relationships and antiparasitic effects of scorpion-derived AMPs.
