Description Malformin C is a natural bicyclic pentapeptide isolated from fungi (such as Aspergillus niger), with CAS number 59926-78-2, structure cyclo(D-Cys-D-Cys-L-Val-D-Leu-L-Leu), in which the two cysteine residues (Cys1-Cys2) are bridged by a disulfide bond, forming a bicyclic (two-ring) structure, with a theoretical molecular weight of 529.72 Da and molecular formula C₂₃H₃₉N₅O₅S₂. Malformin C belongs to the malformin family of natural products, a class of cyclic disulfide-containing pentapeptides produced by fungi. The malformin family compounds were originally named for causing plant malformation, and are secondary metabolites produced by phytopathogenic fungi. The unique bicyclic structure of Malformin C (formed by cyclization of the peptide backbone and disulfide bridging) provides high conformational stability and metabolic stability. Malformin C possesses antibacterial activity, particularly inhibitory activity against bacteria of the genus Bacillus. In addition, malformin family compounds have been reported to possess phytotoxicity (causing plant growth malformation) and other biological activities. Its antibacterial mechanism may involve interference with bacterial cellular metabolism or cell membrane integrity. As a natural fungus-derived bicyclic pentapeptide, Malformin C is widely used in natural product chemistry research, cyclic peptide drug development, antibacterial activity screening, structure-activity relationship research of disulfide-containing cyclic peptides, and fungal secondary metabolite research.
