| Description | Rabbit neutrophil peptide 3b (NP-3b, also known as Corticostatin-2/CS-II) is an α-defensin family antimicrobial peptide isolated from azurophil granules of rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus) neutrophils. Its sequence is NPVSCVRNKGICVPIRCPGSMKQIGTCVGRAVKCCRKK (32 aa), containing three intramolecular disulfide bonds (Cys3-Cys32, Cys5-Cys21, Cys11-Cys31) that form the characteristic β-sheet defensin structure, with a molecular weight of approximately 4065 Da. NP-3b exhibits broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive bacteria, Gram-negative bacteria, and fungi, as well as anti-ACTH (anti-adrenocorticotropic hormone) activity. As a representative mammalian neutrophil defensin, NP-3b is an important tool for studying innate immune peptide structure-activity relationships, defensin bactericidal mechanisms, and mammalian immune evolution. |
