Description Crotalicidin (CAS: 1818372-26-7, Ctn) is a 34-residue cathelicidin isolated from the venom of the South American rattlesnake Crotalus durissus terrificus, sequence KRFKKFFKKVKKSVKKRLKKIFKKPMVIGVTIPF. Molecular formula C₂₀₃H₃₄₆N₅₄O₃₆S, MW 4151.39 Da. Its N-terminus adopts an alpha-helical conformation while the C-terminus is random coil. Crotalicidin exhibits activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, as well as antifungal and antitumor activity. As a member of the snake venom cathelicidin family (homologous to batroxicidin and Pt_CRAMP1), crotalicidin and its truncated analog Ctn[15-34] are tools for studying snake venom host defense peptides, membrane-active mechanisms, and anticancer leads.
Structure type Linear 34-mer (snake venom cathelicidin, N-terminal alpha-helix + C-terminal random coil)
Solubility Readily soluble in water, dilute acetic acid
Storage Powder -20°C, dry, protected from light

PEP-CRO29 White powder Store at -20°C, sealed, dry and protected from light. Aliquot. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Stable for 1 month at 2–8°C in sealed dry condition; stable for shipping at ambient temperature. Stable for 7 days at 4°C. Soluble in dilute acetic acid and acidic buffers. Long α-helix is sensitive to temperature and freeze-thaw; repeated cycles cause helix unfolding and activity loss. Stable for 2 years at -20°C, dry and protected from light.

PEP-CRO29 Crotalicidin rattlesnake peptide with broad antibacterial and endotoxin-neutralizing effects Crotalicidin is an active cathelicidin-derived peptide from South American rattlesnake venom, adopting a typical cationic amphipathic α-helical structure. It rapidly penetrates bacterial cell membranes, exerting broad-spectrum bactericidal activity against Gram-positive, Gram-negative bacteria and fungi. It also effectively binds and neutralizes endotoxin LPS, inhibits endotoxin-induced inflammation, and exhibits moderate antitumor activity, serving as a model for studying the structure-activity relationship of venom-derived AMPs. Venom-derived AMPs, broad-spectrum anti-infection, endotoxin research, cathelicidin family, structure-activity relationship Bacterial membrane penetration; endotoxin LPS neutralization; inflammatory pathway inhibition
