| Description | Retro-indolicidin (CAS: 267890-59-5, i.e. Rev4) is a 13-residue reverse-sequence analog of the bovine neutrophil cathelicidin indolicidin (ILPWKWPWWPWRR-NH₂), C-terminally amidated, sequence RRWPWWPWKWPLI-NH₂. Molecular formula C₁₀₀H₁₃₂N₂₆O₁₃, MW 1906.28 Da. Retro-indolicidin retains the high tryptophan content (39%) characteristic of indolicidin but reverses the C-terminal Arg-Arg to the N-terminus and repositions Lys. In vitro studies show that Retro-indolicidin retains strong antibacterial activity and additionally possesses protease inhibitory activity. It is a model for studying Trp-rich AMP sequence directionality, membrane insertion orientation, and dual antibacterial/protease-inhibitory function. |
